Your adventure begins early with a 5 am departure from your hotel in Cusco. Our private van will take you on a comfortable 3-hour journey to Tinke and then to the town of Upis, located at 4,226 m (13,864 ft). This marks the start of an unforgettable experience.
In Upis, our mountain guide will welcome you and introduce the trekking team, including the cook and horseman. After enjoying a nourishing breakfast, we’ll set off on a 3-hour trek toward Huayna Ausangate Lake. The relatively flat terrain allows you to fully immerse yourself in the breathtaking Andean landscapes.
Once we arrive, we’ll set up camp next to the lake, surrounded by stunning views that will take your breath away. After a delicious lunch, you’ll have free time to explore the area and soak in the peaceful atmosphere of Huayna Ausangate Lake. If you wish, you can relax in the Upis hot springs while sipping on a warm beverage. To end the day, we’ll share a hearty dinner before you retire to your tent under the starry sky.
Wake up with a cup of invigorating coca tea or coffee, setting the perfect tone for the day ahead. After a hearty breakfast, embark on an exciting journey through the mesmerizing Andean landscapes. Trek for 2.5 hours to reach the majestic Arapa Pass (4,800 m / 15,748 ft), where you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of colorful lakes and towering mountains.
From there, begin your descent toward the stunning Pukacocha Lake, a 1.5-hour trek through captivating terrain. This beautiful spot will serve as our lunch destination and campsite for the night. After savoring a delicious lunch, you’ll have free time to explore the enchanting beauty of Pukacocha Lake.
As the afternoon winds down, enjoy hot beverages during our “Happy Hour” before dinner. Relax and soak in the peaceful atmosphere as you camp beneath the starry expanse, surrounded by the serenity of the Andes.
After a delicious breakfast, get ready for a memorable day of exploration. We’ll cross the iconic AusangateCocha Lake and begin a 2-hour ascent to the Palomani Pass (5,200 m / 17,060 ft). From there, you’ll take in breathtaking panoramic views, including a mini rainbow mountain and the captivating Red Lake. Your knowledgeable guide will share fascinating insights into the colorful natural formations of these landscapes.
We’ll then descend for 1.5 hours to the welcoming Huchuy Phinaya community (4,650 m / 15,256 ft) for a well-deserved lunch. Afterward, continue onward to Sorapata (4,700 m / 15,420 ft), where we’ll set up camp for the night. Enjoy the company of llamas and alpacas while soaking in the mesmerizing Andean views. End the day with dinner and rest at Sorapata, as you prepare for the adventure ahead.
Greet the new day with a cup of coca tea or coffee, preparing for an invigorating journey. We’ll begin a 2.5-hour ascent to the Jampa Pass (5,070 m / 16,634 ft), where you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views of majestic glaciers.
Afterward, we’ll descend for 3 hours, passing by OtorongoCocha and Qomercocha Lakes before reaching the charming village of Pacchanta. Here, you can indulge in the soothing hot springs, replenishing your spirit after days of trekking. End the day with a delicious dinner and an overnight stay in Pacchanta, enveloped in the tranquil beauty of nature.
Savor a hearty breakfast as you prepare for the final day of your trek. We’ll traverse for 3 hours through Andean communities, where you’ll witness locals crafting textiles using natural dyes and alpaca wool.
Lunch in Tinke marks the culmination of your journey. Bid farewell to the trekking team before being transferred back to your Cusco hotel, concluding this extraordinary adventure.

This hike is of moderate difficulty and requires good physical condition. The high altitude and steep terrain can make it somewhat demanding, especially if you have no prior hiking experience. If it’s your first time, you may find it challenging. However, if you have already done some hiking and are properly acclimatized, you will find it more bearable. Therefore, it is essential to take the time to properly acclimatise before undertaking the trek to Mount Ausangate.
It is advisable to go to the doctor to prescribe medication against altitude sickness, since acclimatization is essential. Spend a few days in Cusco or other high altitude areas before starting the hike. Staying well hydrated and avoiding heavy meals also helps adapt to altitude.
The ideal time to trek to Ausangate is during the dry season, from May to September. These months offer clear skies and more stable weather conditions.
